Ethix Tools

Each of the Ethix Tools given here were developed over the years of working on Ethix. Here is a brief background on the origin of each.

10 principles of highly ethical business leaders” and “8 traits of a healthy organizational culture”are based on original work by David Gill before IBTE began. His work related to these tools is summarized in his more recent books Doing Right and Becoming Good. While David was at IBTE, these lists were jointly edited for business application by David Gill and Al Erisman and appeared in an earlier form in Ethix 21, January/February 2002 and Ethix 23, May/June 2002. Both David and Al have used this material in business ethics lectures and training for many years. Since David left IBTE in 2003, both his version and the IBTE version have evolved separately, though they have common roots in David’s work.

9 good reasons to run a business in an ethical manner” was a project initiated by David Gill while a part of IBTE. It was developed jointly by David and Al and was published in Ethix 22, March/April 2002. It has been used by both of them in business ethics lectures and training for many years. Since David left IBTE in 2003, both his version and the Ethix version have evolved separately.

7 factors in the failure of large-scale IT-based systems” is based on original work by Al Erisman drawing on his work in software systems at The Boeing Company before IBTE began. He wrote about this in his “Technology Watch” column in Ethix in January/February 2003, and first presented this work at the UBS Wolfsberg Leadership Center Think Tank in Switzerland in September 2003. He continues to make presentation on this work in many parts of the world.
